October 2, 2026

From 28 September to 2 October, a Chilean delegation made up of the National Energy Commission (CNE), the National Electric Coordinator and CENTRA UAI, together with the UK Department for Business and Trade, carried out an intensive work programme in London. CENTRA was represented by academic Rodrigo Moreno.

The aim of the mission was to strengthen cooperation between Chile and the United Kingdom on electricity networks, flexibility and the energy transition. The delegation met with the regulator Ofgem, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), Imperial College London, Arup, Reactive Technologies, Energy Systems Catapult, UK Power Networks, RenewableUK, AtkinsRéalis and Octopus Energy/Kraken, and closed its visit at the GRID 2026 conference at ExCeL London.

Innovation in networks and distribution

Ofgem presented the different routes the British regulator uses to drive innovation in network companies. Industry visits, meanwhile, highlighted the growing role of retailers and aggregators: much of the innovation in distribution is being driven by players that operate with direct market incentives, beyond the regulated framework.

The insights gathered in London will feed into CENTRA’s work on flexibility, networks and market design, and will be shared with the team at the centre’s next meeting.
