The study identifies regulatory gaps and recommends prioritizing reform of the distribution sector and institutional modernization.
Representatives of the “Growing with Energy” series met this Thursday with the new Minister of Energy, Ximena Rincón, to present the conclusions of a study developed by more than twenty leaders and experts from the national energy sector. The study aims to contribute to the sector’s agenda for the government of José Antonio Kast.
Those present included Juan Carlos Jobet, director of the Center for Business Solutions for Development (SEDE) at the Adolfo Ibáñez University Business School; Rodrigo Silva, representing ICARE; and Vivianne Blanlot and Rodrigo Moreno, both representing participants in the series’ roundtables.
The “Growing with Energy” series was developed by SEDE in conjunction with ICARE, with the objective of diagnosing the state of the electricity system and proposing a roadmap to revitalize energy as an engine of investment and development.
The project brought together specialists from the public, private, and academic sectors, organized into four thematic working groups, which focused on diagnosing the electricity system, pending reforms, the climate agenda, and political economy to develop a roadmap.
The report identifies that, despite Chile’s leadership in renewable energy, the regulatory framework has not kept pace with technological change, generating tensions regarding system security and growing public distrust.
The document recommends prioritizing two fundamental areas: reform of the distribution sector and institutional modernization.
