Last Thursday, June 4, 2026, the “Meeting on Green Hydrogen in Chile: Progress and Status of Projects” was held. This event brought together students, academics, and representatives from the public and industrial sectors in Room 10 of the Vitacura campus of Adolfo Ibáñez University.

The activity took place within the framework of the TEI RH2 Project, an international cooperation initiative promoted by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Chilean Agency for International Development Cooperation (AGCID), in conjunction with the Chilean Ministry of Energy and Adolfo Ibáñez University (UAI).

The event began with welcoming remarks from Carmen Alonso, AECID Project Manager for the Southern Cone; Nicolás Zamorano, Head of the Biofuels Unit at the Ministry of Energy; and Francisco Pizarro, Director of Innovation and Institutional Transfer at UAI.

Next, Glenda Giménez, head of the Hydrogen Technical Unit at the Superintendency of Electricity and Fuels (SEC), presented on the monitoring and authorization process for green hydrogen projects managed by that institution.

The event also included two panel discussions. The first, “Current Status of Green Hydrogen Projects at the National Level,” was moderated by Nuria Hartmann (Hinicio and H2Chile) and featured José Ubiergo (GasValpo), Nicolás Becker (QUEMPIN), Mauricio Arenas (UCSC), José Luis Adasme (FCAB), and Alejandro Rojas (Walmart Chile). The second panel, “The Future of Green Hydrogen in Chile,” was moderated by Matías García (Ministry of Energy) and featured José Fuster (CORFO), Ángel Caviedes (Ministry of Energy), Eduardo Bitran (UAI), and Rodrigo Carreño (GIZ).

The closing remarks were delivered by the Undersecretary of Energy, Hugo Briones, who praised the dialogue created around the challenges and opportunities of the sector. The day concluded with a networking session, solidifying a key exchange platform for the development of a competitive and sustainable green hydrogen industry in Chile.
