The Energy Transition Center (Centra) of the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences of the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (UAI) held on Monday, June 3, the seminar “Distribution networks with high integration of solar roofs: lessons from the Australian case”.

The activity took place between 9 and 11 am, with free access and in hybrid format at the Vitacura Campus (Room 7, Av. Santa María 5870).

The meeting included a presentation by Nando Ochoa, Smart Grids and Energy Systems academic at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Ochoa is considered one of the leaders of the world’s leading smart grid research teams, a distinguished lecturer at IEEE PES, a member of the editorial board of the IEEE Journal of Energy and Power, and a senior member of IEEE.

Between 2011 and 2021 he was an academic at the University of Manchester, UK, and was previously a research associate in energy systems at the University of Edinburgh, UK.

In the opinion of Luis Gutiérrez, director of the UAI’s civil engineering program in energy, “this event is a unique opportunity to learn how Australia managed to have a third of its houses operating with photovoltaic generation and how academia has influenced these advances”.

The seminar also consisted of a panel discussion moderated by Rodrigo Palma (Universidad de Chile), together with Nando Ochoa and Mauricio Riveros (Ministry of Energy), Bárbara Barbieri (Acesol), Paola Carrasco (Enel Distribución), Dr. Alejandro Navarro (Systep-Universidad de Chile), and Dr. Carlos Silva (Centra-UAI).
