Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (UAI), through its Energy Transition Center (CENTRA), has played an essential role in the creation and development of the innovative National Center for Advanced Decentralized Energy Solutions (SEDA). This initiative is a key component of the Chilean Ministry of Energy’s Energy Agenda 2022-2026, which aims to transform the energy sector into a catalyst for economic growth and a pillar of a new sustainable development for the country.
The SEDA Center aspires to be a national benchmark in inter-institutional cooperation and interdisciplinary approach, dedicated to fostering development, research and innovation in decentralized energy solutions. This center is crucial for Chile’s energy transition, seeking to promote change with an equitable and sustainable socio-ecological perspective.
In November 2023, 23 institutions representing the 16 regions of Chile, including UAI, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, marking a milestone in inter-regional and inter-institutional collaboration. Since the beginning of 2023, the IAU, through CENTRA, has been actively involved in a series of workshops and reports that are part of this initiative.
Another crucial aspect of the initiative is the collective collaboration on strategic planning. Participating institutions, including the IAU, are working together to create and implement communications strategies. These strategies are designed to effectively disseminate SEDA’s objectives and achievements, as well as to increase public awareness and support for the energy transition in Chile.
In addition, an informational web platform is being developed that will function as a central repository of information and resources related to decentralized energy solutions. This platform is intended to be a point of reference for both industry professionals and the general public, providing access to white papers, opinion columns, and other discussion documents.
The creation of data analysis and visualization tools is another essential component. These tools will be aimed at improving the understanding and management of data related to decentralized energy solutions, thus contributing to the preparation of specific project proposals for research and collaboration with industry.
The SEDA project is emerging as a significant opportunity for the advancement of the energy sector in Chile, offering an unprecedented scenario of collaboration and broad representation at a territorial level. UAI and CENTRA are committed to face the present and future challenges, contributing to the success of this valuable initiative.
